Listening to Queer Voices: The Curation of an LGBTQ+ Exhibit at the American Bookbinders Museum
On August 22st, 2019, I presented at the National Parks Service training on Researching, Preserving, and Interpreting LGBTQ History. My talk was focused on the development and curation of "Queer Voices: Paperback and Periodicals Forging Community." This temporary exhibition ran from June 1 through August 31, 2019 at the American Bookbinders Museum (ABM) and focused on the formation of queer communities through the lens of published books, zines, and periodicals. I described the process of curating this exhibit, from initial brainstorming to refining the narrative, selecting objects, and exhibit design.
The PDF attached below is the accompanying Powerpoint, which is a more streamlined version of my talk. I designed the presentation for others to use it as a guideline without getting bogged down by ABM-specific details.
